The Healing Garden<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A restorative space that celebrated small-scale sustainable practices to nurture both people and the environment. The border showcased two key sustainable elements: naturalistic planting and a rain garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biodiverse naturalistic planting included climate resistant and nectar and pollen rich Verbena bonariensis<\/em>, and native plant Succisa pratensis<\/em>. Meanwhile, the recycled water trough contained a rain garden, capturing rainwater instead of wasting it as runoff and using it for water-loving plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the sustainable elements, the border had been designed to improve mental health. Naturalistic planting was used to create a semi-private seating area, surrounded by calming colours, which aimed to reduce anxiety whilst encouraging a connectedness to nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The greener border was designed by Camellia Hayes for the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park 2022. The Healing Garden was awarded a RHS Silver-Gilt Medal and was kindly sponsored by the University of Sheffield Landscape Department<\/a> and Yorkshire Gardens Trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
