Seeking Resilience
The concept for Seeking Resilience began when Camellia was thinking about her mum’s strength during recent cancer treatment. Inspired by self-seeders thriving in wall crevasses and grassland plant communities, Camellia began to develop her theme of resilience.
This pocket park was a place where people could escape the busyness of the city, be close to nature and immersed in resilient plants. The reclaimed brick wall contained integral bird brick houses to encourage birds to nest, whilst the soft edge pond supported greater biodiversity. Cloud-like planting floated throughout the garden, creating a calming space where people and wildlife could seek respite and flourish.
Seeking Resilience was designed by Camellia Hayes as part of the RHS Young Designer of the Year 2023 competition. Seeking Resilience was awarded a RHS Silver Medal and was generously sponsored by Barratt Developments PLC .
Also, supported by in-kind sponsors: Ashwells Timber, Bird Brick Houses, Ladybrook Nursery, London Stone, Reclaimed Brick Company , The RHS, Sovini Trade Supplies and University of Sheffield.
Following RHS Flower Show Tatton Park, Seeking Resilience was relocated to St Luke’s C of E Primary School, Salford.
